1. When you first start, be sure to choose two gathering professions. Mining and Skinning might be easiest early on, but Mining and Herbalism will ultimately be more profitable. Another advantage of these professions is that you can start them without having to purchase equipment like you do with some other professions — so already, money saved.
2. Invest early in plenty of bag space. It may be hard to do because it isn’t as fun and instantly gratifying, but it will help immensely in increasing your fun over the long run.
3. Now use your skills and fill those bags whenever possible, even if it doesn’t raise your skill, and even if it feels like you’re filling your bags with junk. Even the gray and white items will accrue more gold than you might imagine as you slowly sell off these raw materials.
4. Be sure to collect clothing like linen, wool and leather early on. This stuff always sells.

The Gatherer Mod is a WoW Mod for treasure hunters, herbalists and miners. It will assist you to track nearby deposits, plants and treasure spots on your minimap. Don’t confuse this with a tracking ability. This WoW Mod saves where you found these materials on previous adventures. Whenever you perform a gathering skill on an item, it notes the exact location in its memory. Then later if you travel nearby this valuable spot, it will appear on your minimap. Used properly, this can greatly improve the efficiency with which you gather raw materials to vendor or auctioneer.

If you want to mix in a non-gathering profession at the start, choose either Enchanting or Fishing. Fishing can make some money fast early as most servers pay fisherman per hour. Enchanting can actually work really well with gathering. You can disenchant items and sell them more easily as raw materials or magic reagents. If you choose one of these approaches, for your single gathering profession I suggest starting with Mining and later moving on to Herbalism. Enchanging and Mining can make a good combination with a little knowledge.

Don’t worry that you’re “abandoning” fun skills like blacksmithing or leathermaking. You can come back to them later and make more efficient (and thus more fun) use of them when you’re a higher level and you have more gold.

Lastly, I have two habits to avoid. Many newbies waste their money early on in World of Warcraft with these activities.

1. Don’t fall into the wasteful pattern of buying new armor and equipment every level or two. You probably don’t need these incremental upgrades and they waste your gold just when you’re starting to get your WoW Gold finances in shape. And don’t succumb to alluring prices at the Auction House. It’s better to obtain your new armor and weapons through doing instances anyways.
2. Don’t lose money at the Auction House through deposits for putting items up for auctions that don’t sell. You’ll need to learn the Auction House a little bit before you can avoid this problem, but pay attention early and recognize which weapons and armor (especially early) just don’t sell well. Instead of losing your 2 gold deposit, try disenchanting and vendoring the item instead of putting it up for auction.

Players select one World of Warcraft class to represent their personalities and goals within the game world. Each race features a specific set of restrictions, thus each race will have a different profile of classes available to it.

Each class provides a unique profile of abilities and talents for the player to explore. Abilities represent skills and spells available to the class, and talents empower players to specify and define their role in the world. Within each class the player can explore three distinct talent trees.

World of Warcraft‘s nine classes prior to Blizzard’s release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack:

• The Warrior is often referred to as a “tank” class for being a high-damage giving or taking class. This World of Warcraft class is a melee fighter who emphasizes non-magical weapons. The player can specialize the Warrior to deal damage or to be a protective tank.
• The Warlock is another damage class. A sinister blend of Mage and Hunter classes, the Warlock inflicts magical damage just like a Mage but in addition has access to vicious pets, sort of like the Hunter class but the Warlock’s crazy little side-kicks are called minions. The Warlock can invoke attack spells which impose damage-over-time spells or cast spells that inflict the damage all-at-once, like those of theMage or Shaman classes.
• The Rogue is a stealthy damage class. A shadowy assassin who avoids being seen by enemies with near-invisibility, the sly Rogue inflicts damage with the ability to dual-wield melee weapons. When I first began playing World of Warcraft, I was loyal to the Rogue class because of my love for the Looking Glass Studios classic Thief games.
• The Priest is either a healer or one of the damage-dealing World of Warcraft classes, depending on whether the player pursues good as a Holy Priest or evil as a Shadow Priest. The Priest is lightly-armored.
• The Shaman is what is often referred to as a hybrid class. Compared Paladins and Druids (other hybrid classees), the Shaman is limited as an effective tank. Yet specifically equipped and specialized Shamans can out-damage either Paladins in melee combat or Druids in spell battles.
• The Paladin is another so-called hybrid class who serves as a tough combat healer. Just like with Druids, the player can specialize this holy warrior to perform each of the three major World of Warcraft roles.
• In the original WoW release, you could only play a Paladin if you decided to be an Alliance character and you could only play a Shaman if you opted to represent the Horde. With The Burning Crusade expansion pack, however, Blood Elves of the Horde can be Paladins and the Draenei of the Alliance can be Shamans.
• The Mage is more strictly a damage class, dealing damage through spells derived from frost, fire and the arcane. Don’t underestimate theMage’s value in parties as it can also conjure food and water for its comrades.
• Ironically, the Hunter is a favorite of pet lovers everywhere. The Hunter is a damage class that employs a blend of archery skills and pet mastery. The hunter deals damage with ranged weapons such as bows, crossbows or guns. He also enlists the loyal assistance of animal pets. The hunter may also utilize traps on unsuspecting enemies.
• The Druid is yet another hybrid class. This veritable hippie of a class can be a tank, damage dealer or a healer. The great fun of a druid isshapeshifting into many different forms to perform different roles, such as a bear for tanking or a Tree for healing.

A tenth class called the Death Knight — the first Hero class — will be added with the upcoming expansion Wrath of the Liche King.

Valkor explains — in remarkable step-by-step detail — which add-ons to use, where to find them and exactly how to use them to uncover great bargains in the Auction House then turn around and mark them up for big profit. He also cleverly scales his lessons by need. While his guide’s explanations are thorough and clear, often using screenshots and diagrams to help teach you his methods, Valkor’s book does suffer from a lack of structure. This may change soon as he frequently updates the book (note: owners receive a lifetime of free updates), but for now it is a little bit like reading one huge article. There are plenty of section titles and visuals to break it up, but for a guide this detailed (over 100 pages packed with descriptions and lessons), it could use chapters or some kind of more distinct overall organization.

Get Out of the House to Grind

In addition to covering the Auction House, Valkor’s Gold Making Guide also covers grinding and gold farming. If you’re either new to the game or you’ve never tried one of these professional-grade WoW Gold guides before, you’ll find this section detailed and enlightening. He even provides some nice maps to help you swiftly identify the best grinding spots. However, Valkor’s Gold Making Guide is best when it covers the Auction House. I feel that Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide covers grinding, farming and other methods in a more interesting, organized and comprehensive manner.

So… Valkor’s Gold Making Guide or Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide?

So what’s my final verdict? Well, it’s difficult, because I really feel Valkor has put together an excellent and useful guide here. I’ve bought and evaluated many different WoW Gold Guides and newsletters, and Valkor’s Gold Guide is truly one of the very best. However, it is not as clever and comprehensive as Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide.

In an ideal world, I would suggest buying both guides because Valkor’s detailed and extensive approach to using the Auction House for gold-making is unparalleled. Valkor’s Gold Making Guide makes an excellent Auction House oriented companion to Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide. But since most people will likely only buy one of these guides, I have to direct you to Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide instead: Warcraft Riches Review: Derek’s Gold Mastery Guide.

One other thing you might consider, though, is that profiting with the Auction House is in itself a fun, rewarding gameplay experience. If you’re considering spending some significant time and gold with the Auction House, I strongly suggest you buy Valkor’s Gold Making Guide.
